What did we do last summer? Nothing, just sat in front of our computers working while the kids were in the other room taking their online classes. Let’s not spend this one doing the same thing. Go out and dive into the amazing world of water adventure sports. But before you let loose and start dreaming of riding the waves, go through this article and read about safety tips you should know before signing up for a water activity.
Adventure sports are really dangerous, here are some safety tips for you!
Crash course in swimming
Yes, we know not all guides and instructors ask you for your swimming skills before water activities. But some do, especially the big ones. We are asking you to do a breaststroke just learn the basics, tips, and tricks before you sign up for a big water adventure sport.
Check the weather forecast before stepping out
Before signing up for an activity that includes a huge water body, make sure if the weather is going to cooperate or not. For instance, you should not go surfing when it’s raining heavily. Consult with your activity instructor about which is the best time to step in the water. Do not risk your safety.
Keep an eye on your little ones
Kids get excited at the thought of taking part in water activities. They do not care for things like safety first and proper sports gear. This is why they have you. Make sure they are not swimming towards the deep side. Pay special attention to them and keep them close.
Proper safety gears
This one is a no-brainer but we tend to overlook it in excitement. If you have signed up for a water sport that includes deep water, make sure you are secured. Wear your life jacket even if you are the best swimmer you know. Ask your lifeguard to fasten it for you.
Nobody is diving alone
Swimming or diving into deep waters is a peaceful experience and that is why some people like to do it alone. It is okay to do so when you are doing it in your hotel’s swimming pool but can be extremely dangerous when you are standing face to face with the mighty ocean. You can never predict the depth and dangers of an ocean. It’s better to dive when you have company.
No such thing as no equipment
Some water sports such as water rafting and boating need a lot of equipment. You should not assume that the instructor would have everything you need and so you reach the spot with nothing of your own. Carry at least a pair of towels and a freshwater bottle. Also, make sure you have an expert accompanying you in the raft.
Broadcast to your family and close friends
We are not saying posting every single detail of your water sport on your family group. We are just advising you to let the people in your family and in your friend group know about your whereabouts. They should not be completely in the dark when you are engaged in swimming with sharks.
No alcohol before water sports
Trust us you do not need alcohol-induced courage before water activity. Getting nervous is completely normal. Alcohol will only dehydrate you and is extremely risky. You need to be deeply focused during the water activity. You can always celebrate with a glass of champagne later.
Hope this blog helped you with safety tips. We hope you apply all of these before participating in water adventure sports.
